About the Conference MendelNet 2019

Each and every year, I sit at my desk to take a look at the initial preparations of an event that has become the fixture of our academic lives. And you certainly do not need me to tell you what it is all about. The answer is pretty straightforward and easy. It is the MendelNet, our doctoral students conference, this year in its 26th edition already.

While the preparation of contributions seems to be a fairly distant future, I notice the increasing research efforts at the places I am most familiar with, which means our faculty’s departments, fields, forests, lakes, and laboratories. A hissing sound here and the ticking of an indicator there, I always feel the immense pleasure, curiosity, and satisfaction when first raw data start to pour in.

The matter of knowledge and inquiry is, of course, just one facet of the process. Equally busy are those who bear the responsibility for smooth organization and fine-tuning all the problems such an event routinely brings on. A sort of a task force and headed by the seasoned chair, they make every effort imaginable to make things happen again.

All this would be far from real without the generous support from Faculty, Mendel University in Brno and a group of sponsors who pride themselves to be a part of our early-stage research. And the fact the MendelNet proceedings are, year by year, with unfailing regularity, included in the Conference Proceedings Citation Index (Clarivate Analytics), is only a gentle reminder this conference is the event to attend.

The city of Brno, with its cultural and gastronomic treasures and persistent heritage of the revolutionary genetician J. G. Mendel, is a perfect backdrop for the convention, ensuring that activities both on and off the premises are enriching, inspiring, and funny.

I look forward to seeing with all of you this November
