About the Conference MendelNet 2022
We live in a very special times and each and every passing day reminds us anything can happen no matter how much we are prepared.
After the prolonged covid-19 crisis that has yet to find its conclusive outcome another challenge has appeared and asks for utmost attention: the large-scale war and the one of a kind we liked to think of being the blast of the past; full of twists and surprises and unexpected consequences.
And so is the science, albeit with a fragment of horror in human terms, as it is also filled with plenty of unanticipated events, puzzling processes, and a number of formal check-points and requirements. It constantly pushes our intellect, curiosity, and the spirit of perseverance. And nowhere is this truer than at the very first leg of the long journey of inquiry: in students’ initial scientific efforts.
The conference has always been a venue where fresh and bold ideas tend to emerge, and this year, the 29th MendelNet collides with 200 years from the birth of Johann Gregor Mendel, a pioneering genetician, and a lighthouse of discovery.
I would like to think of both this anniversary and our doctoral conference as a good sign and a symbolic and reassuring light of hope. The light set not only to iluminate the dire times we live in, but also to indicate the future path for the renewed conference, Mendel University in Brno and, most importantly, all of us.
I look forward to seeing with all of you
