The 25th anniversary of MendelNet
Let’s say it plainly and firmly this time. Something rather wonderfull is about to begin. Something extraordinary is to be expected – even with respect to demanding standards of ever more surprising scientific environment which the Faculty of AgriSciences is a part of.
Yes, you guessed it. It’s the 25th anniversary of MendelNet, our beloved and respected annual doctoral students conference, a platform of co-operation and framework for innovation, that has reached yet another milestone.
A quarter of a century is a very long time, indeed. It makes up for five student generations’ time and a substantial portion of any teaching and scientific career. From its modest beginnings, this event was intended to enable, support, and develop the means and processes leading to pioneering research, both in basic and applied field. It has networked countless bright minds and fuelled partnerships that endured and flourished.
It is impossible to enumerate here all the people who stood out at the spotlight during their participation, or stayed off the ramp contributing greatly as organizers and reviewers. Suffice to say, the total sum goes into thousands.
To proceed so far would be unimaginable without the generous support from the Faculty, Mendel University in Brno, and all our sponsors. Not of the least importance to the success, that is increasingly associated with the conference, is our city, a modern metropolis that bears on its shoulders the exquisite heritage of great genetician and other scientific and cultural heroes.
A heroic effort of its own – both for authors and editors – are the conference proceedings that have successfuly gone the risky paths of evaluation process for the past seven years, landing each and every time at the respected Conference Proceedings Citation Index (Clarivate Analytics).
I can’t tell you how proud I am when looking back at the journey MendelNet has chartered. And, quite understandably, there are some serious anticipations on my mind, too.
I look forward to seeing and celebrating with all of you this November at our big anniversary.
